Parenthood’s executive producer Jason Katims has revealed details of Jason Ritter’s return to the show.

Ritter previously appeared in the series as Mark, a love interest for Sarah (Lauren Graham). Earlier this month, it emerged that Ritter will be returning for a number of episodes in the third season of Parenthood.

However, Katims teased that Sarah will be embarrassed when she runs into Mark again.

“In the first episode, Sarah is going to be at the high school having a heated argument with an administrator at the high school that Jason Ritter witnesses,” he told TV Guide. “So she re-meets him in sort of an embarrassing moment.

“She’s going through something else in the episode and winds up talking to him about it and they reconnect.”

Katims also hinted that the relationship could last for some time, saying: “We’ve had really interesting and great love interests for Sarah over the first two seasons, but we really wanted to do a story where we get her into a long-term relationship, or at least a longer-term relationship.

“Of course, we need to see the practical matters of how many episodes we’ll be able to have Jason Ritter with us, but he will definitely have a more extended role than he had in the first season.”

Ritter, who recently starred in NBC’s cancelled show The Event, is currently thought to be working on a new hour-long drama project with Katims.
